Learning your Mac OS X version and build number

Find out which macOS version your Mac is using

To see the version of the Mac operating system installed on your Mac and find out if it is the latest version, follow the steps below.

  • Click the Apple menu in the corner of your screen and select About This Mac. You’ll see the macOS name and the version number next to it. If you also need to find the development number for some products or features, click the version number to see it.
  • Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. This process displays general information about your Mac, including your Mac model, serial number, and macOS version. Click the System Report button to see more details provided by System Information.

The example here shows macOS Catalina version 10.15.

Note: Before installing the HP printer driver, you need to know your operating system version and type. Otherwise, your driver may experience an installation error.
